working on a new album...

we're working hard on a (the?) new album, and have visions of releasing it on vinyl. It's a really fun process. Last night we recorded drums over at Aaron's place. He laid down the beat to slack key again, and then we worked on turn of phrase, which has a real cool motown driving beat. That one is gonna be fun. All the remote (read, not at my (erik) apartment) tracking is being done through a motu 828mkii with the mackie 1402 in front of it. We're going for all 96/32bit float, and I'm real curious to see if there is a discernable difference with this higher resolution once it's all said and done. The crown jewel though is that we'll mixing it out of the box through my brand-new 1982 Tascam m-312b. Some preliminary tracking has been done through that board already, and i love the sound of it's preamps - not sure if the sound is really that accurate or great or warm or whatever, but they at least have character, which I cannot say for the mackie preamps. Ok, enough gear geeking. My next entry will be all about my lovely new Dynaudio BM5A monitors. holy shit those sound good. Now if only my room sounded good...
